I remember the first time I went to the Barbados Wildlife Reserve on a class trip when I was 4 years old- I was soooooo excited! To this day, when I go to the reserve I always have a great time being with the animals in their natural habitat. The Reserve is located on the northern part of the parish St. Peter. Here, it is set amidst a lush mahogany grove, which gives you the true wildlife feel.
When you first enter, there is a walk- in bird sanctuary and iguana sanctuary and you can mingle with the free roaming monkeys, deer, turtles, maras, peacocks and many other animals. Don't be afraid of the animals roaming around, they are cool, calm and collected, and they are just chilling out in their natural habitats. The tours are self- guided, so there's no need to rush when you take your walk through the reserve. Not all of the animals are free roaming, as there are some that are in cages such as the bunnies, some birds and the snakes- but have no fear, you can still interact with these animals and watch them play and enjoy themselves with some of the other animals.
There are workers there to assist you with any questions you may have on the animals or the reserve, and at 2pm daily the reserve has feeding time! You can assist and even feed the animals! This is always a fun moment to get close up pictures and videos of you and the animals. The reserve is family and children friendly; animal and nature lovers will feel right at home! This is a popular sightseeing spot here on the island to tourists and locals alike. If you've ever considered visiting the reserve, I would highly recommend it!
